Section 8. SECURITY

Secure Pages

Pages involving the transfer of sensitive information, payments, and personal data are so-called secure pages. You as a customer can check whether the website you are visiting is secure in the URL. URLs ordinarily start with http://, but on secure pages, they start instead with https:// where “s” stands for “secure”.

Secure Payments

Pierre Robert cooperates with DIBS AB for the acceptance of card and bank transfer payments. DIBS AB is a credit market company authorized by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. All transfers of card information are encrypted. Note that Pierre Robert does not store any credit card numbers – these are managed by DIBS AB. DIBS meets the requirements for PCI DSS.

We use SSL encryption, which is the most common form of encryption, and is often used by banks.

Card Payments and 3D Secure

3D Secure is a technology developed by VISA for verifying that the person shopping on the Internet with your card is really you. The standard is also used by MasterCard. The technology means that when you use your card to buy products or services on the Internet, it is up to your card issuer or bank to identify you. The identification is made through a personal password or code you state at the time of the purchase. This is checked by the card company via a special security server via encrypted communication. You have chosen this password yourself, or it has been assigned by the bank which has issued the card. The advantage for you as a consumer of using a payment service on the Internet that offers 3D is that you get an opportunity to verify that you are the actual card holder, which entails a smaller risk that the card will be used fraudulently. You will recognize a 3D secure payment solution through VISA's brand, “Verified by VISA”, and MasterCard's brand, “SecureCode”. Note that 3D Secure works only if you have procured the service via your bank.

Section 9. FORCE MAJEURE

Pierre Robert is exempt from any consequences for a failure to meet a certain obligation pursuant to this Agreement if the failure is based on an exempting circumstance in accordance with the below, and the circumstance prevents, hampers, or delays the performance of the obligation. Exempting circumstances include, for example, acts and omissions of regulatory authorities, new or amended legislation, industrial action, blockade, fire, flood, sabotage or large-scale accident, or any other type of natural disaster. The reservation with regard, for example, to an industrial action or blockade applies even if Pierre Robert is subject to or engages in such an industrial action itself. In the latter case, Pierre Robert is not obliged to compensate for damages which would have come to being if Pierre Robert had demonstrated prudence. Pierre Robert is not responsible in any case for any indirect damages. Force majeure circumstances also include regulatory decisions with a negative effect on the market and products; for example, decisions on warning texts, sales bans, etc., or an abnormal economic downturn, as well if the company has been exposed to criminal activity affecting the operations.

Washing and caring for Pierre Robert products

Can nylon stockings be reused multiple times and can they be washed?

Nylon stockings can easily be used multiple times and can be washed by hand or in the washing machine. If you choose to use a washing machine, you should use a La Mote laundry bag and settings for wool or silk.

Do clothes from Pierre Robert Group shrink in the wash?

We follow the Norwegian Consumer Council's recommendations which are a maximum of 2% shrinkage for woven garments and a maximum of 5% shrinkage for knitted garments. Nylon and polyester tights shrink a little.

Can an underwire bra be machine washed?

We recommend hand washing for underwire bras and padded bras. If you prefer to use the washing machine, you should use a La Mote laundry bag so you avoid having the loop come loose and damage the machine.

How do I keep white clothes from going grey?

First of all, make sure that you use a detergent designed for white clothes. White clothes should be kept separate from coloured clothes, even if there are only some stripes, etc. Check that you are using the correct measure of detergent.

About Pierre Robert Group

How can I find out more about the Pierre Robert Group?

General information, production details and Pierre Robert’s ethical guidelines can be found under “About us”. If you have any other questions, please contact the communications manager for Pierre Roberts, Bettina Johnsen.

Social Responsibility

Read more about our social responsibility

Who produces the garments for the Pierre Robert Group?

Our products are manufactured with carefully selected suppliers in Europe and Asia.

Why do you withold information on your suppliers?

We believe it's good that there is increased focus on corporate social responsibility and the working conditions of textile workers. The textile industry has many complex challenges, and this is something we are continually working on.

For competitive reasons, we do not wish to provide the names of the factories. Pierre Robert is a relatively small company competing in a tough market against several major national and international operators. We put a lot of effort and resources into our suppliers - in terms of safety, quality and product development. This is one of our strengths, and therefore we do not want our competitors to gain insight in and "freely" use our supplier base. As a smaller operator with unique products, we have to be extra cautious and protect ourselves against counterfeiting and other challenges. We are more vulnerable in this area than the larger operators.

Openness involves many other issues than open vendor lists. Our report to the Ethical Trading Initiative Norway (IEH) is available to the public and includes information about our business and purchasing procedures as well as our focus on corporate social responsibility.

That said, we have a great understanding of the requirement for transparency regarding our suppliers. This is something we continuously take up and consider internally in the Pierre Robert Group.

What are your suppliers’ working conditions, and what are you doing to check and possibly improve these?

Our suppliers’ working conditions must comply with international standards.Workers’ rights and safety must be protected, and the environment and animal welfare must be taken into consideration and also protected. Our ethical guidelines (Code of Conduct) are based on conventions approved by the UN and ILO (the international Labour Organisation) as well as the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles for sustainable development.

We focus on building good, long-term relationships with our suppliers and are continually looking for ways of improving. We have our own CSR manager who takes care of corporate social responsibility, and the Pierre Robert Group is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative Norway. We use an operating system developed by the IEH to assess risks and working conditions in the factories. This is done to ensure proper production and to identify any areas that need improvement.

New suppliers are chosen based on our ethical guidelines along with chemical regulations and general conditions regarding co-operation and quality.

The Pierre Robert Group ensures that the ethical guidelines are complied with using external international or local resources and by visits to suppliers. The checks may occur both with or without prior notice. As of today, no conditions have been revealed that are contrary to the terms of our ethical guidelines.

Are your procurement practices adapted so that manufacturers can satisfy the requirements of your ethical guidelines / Code of Conduct?

We communicate our timeline for the development of new products so that the purchasing process is predictable for manufacturers. The lead time is clarified in consultation with the manufacturer, and we have good procedures for planning orders/production in consultation with the manufacturer. This makes it easier for them to maintain a good production plan which takes into account the employee's working hours and working conditions.

What are you doing to protect the environment?

At Pierre Robert Group we are conscious of our environmental impact and our responsibilities as a supplier of basic garments. We are constantly looking for ways we can improve and minimise environmental impact. In the Pierre Robert Group, we have chosen to focus on three key areas to reduce our environmental impact:
• Waste reduction
• Reduction of CO2 emissions
• Products designed and produced in a way that reduces our impact on the environment

What are you doing in these areas?

We work a lot on packaging and, as far as possible use cardboard or plastic that can be recycled through established recycling schemes from Grønt Punkt/Repa (for Sweden). We also set stricter environmental standards for our suppliers and require that they have a system for waste management, chemical management, water consumption and emissions. An increasing number of manufacturers are environmentally certified according to ISO 14001 and we set requirements for all suppliers regarding the limited use of chemicals through our chemical regulations which are in line with, or stricter than, REACH (the EU chemicals regulation).

Do you use wool from sheep subjected to mulesing?

No. We only use certified merino wool, which ensures that the merino sheep are not subjected to mulesing. In addition, our ethical guidelines set a number of other requirements for animal welfare with which our suppliers must comply. For example, only leather that comes from animals that have been slaughtered for food may be used.

Wash & Care

Different materials require different treatments. With proper care, you can enjoy your Pierre Robert clothing for many years.

SORT, SORT, SORT

Sorting is one of the cardinal rules of laundry. Read the washing instructions carefully and follow the recommendations for that particular garment. The washing instructions indicate the roughest treatment tolerated by the garment and are based on the fabric properties and treatment during production.

Sort by colour, washing temperature and recommended programme. Lights and darks should be washed separately, as should wools. The care label indicates the type of fibres used and can help you choose the right programme.

NYLON

Nylon or polyamide are tougher than all other fibre materials and resist wear and tear more effectively. However, thin, fine nylon tights should be washed at 40 in a washing bag. Tights should air dry. Either hang them up or lay them flat to dry. Fabric softener that can reduce the static electricity often associated with nylon.

WOOL AND SILK

Wool can pile and shrink if treated roughly. To keep your wool garment lasting for as long as possible, use your machine's wool cycle at 40 degrees C or less, and preferably with a low spin or no spin-dry. Choose a detergent that does not contain enzymes or bleach.

Do not tumble-dry wool; let it air dry. Wool stretches easily when wet. Heavy garments should be hung at several points to distribute the weight and avoid marks from clothes pegs. Very heavy garments should be dried flat. If the wool has shrunk, you can try stretching it when the garment is wet.

Wool does not need to be washed as frequently as other materials. Wool has antibacterial properties that inhibit odours, and it's often enough to air wool after each use, instead of washing it. Wool has antibacterial properties that inhibit odours, and it is enough to simply air it after use.

Silk is a delicate fibre and we recommend washing by hand or using the appropriate cycle in the washing machine. Use a washing bag when washing silk in the machine and be sure to use a mild detergent. Silk should not be tumble-dried.

Our wool garments that contain a wool/silk blend can be washed as wool using the wool cycle.

COTTON, MICROFIBRE AND MODAL

Cotton clothes are comfortable, durable and easy to wash.

The maximum washing temperature for cotton is determined by the dye used to colour the garment. White cotton can withstand temperatures of 60, but with today’s washing machines and detergents, 40 is usually enough. Pierre Robert underwear with patterns or colours should be washed at 40to prevent fading.

Microfibre is a thin synthetic fabric. It is compact yet soft, delicate and comfortable. Pierre Robert uses microfibre for sportswear and some underwear. Microfibre should be washed at 40 and without fabric softener. Fabric softener can affect the elasticity of clothes.

Modal is made of cellulose fibre that provides excellent durability, softness and shine. We recommend machine washing at 40.
